Measure Your Shirt

Before You Start

  • Lay the shirt flat and button it up.
  • Smooth out wrinkles before you measure.
  • Keep the tape flat against the fabric, not around curves.
  • All measurements in inches.

Collar
  1. Place one end of the measuring tape at the button joint on the collar band and measure along the collar to the centre of the buttonhole.

  2. Place the measuring tape just under the armhole and keep it flat across the front to the other armhole.

  3. Place the tape across the centre of the shirt’s torso and measure from one edge to the other.

  4. Measure the edge of the hem from one end to the other.

  5. On the back of the shirt, measure from the end of one shoulder to the end of the other.

  6. Place the tape 1.5 inches from the armpit seam and measure to the top of the sleeve.

  7. Measure from the centre back of the shoulder/yoke to the end of the cuff.

  8. Measure from the highest point of the shoulder seam, beside the collar, to the hemline.
